What is Kabbalah?

Quite a few people have heard of Kabbalah especially in relation to celebrities bringing it to the forefront, but what does is actually mean and what is it all about? Well in fact, Kabbalah comes from an area of Judaism that is surrounded by important questions and mysticism. While most other religions seek to constantly consider and analyse the big questions like “Why are we here?” and “How do we relate to the universe?” this is quite different in Judaism and these questions are only thought about later and can be interpreted in different ways.

Mystical experiences are important in Judaism and taken extremely seriously. While every day Judaism focuses on man and his relationship to God, Kabbalah looks into the heart of the mysticism of God. The Kabbalah popularised by celebrities takes a part of this wisdom from ancient times and aims to create joy and lasting happiness in your life. Part of this is a healing process and focusing on making people who are ill better in themselves and relates to life’s meanings. The popularized form of Kabbalah is related to The Kabbalah Centre which provides help and support to those who seek it out.

The most important thing perhaps about Kabbalah is that it is not, in itself, a religion or biblical, even a belief system but about an individual understanding. There is nothing to be proved or disproved and it is not a cult, but it is a method by which someone can choose to connect and gain knowledge. The Kabbalah Centre, established by Rabbi Philip Berg, was established in 1969 and is a system for self-improvement for all and everyone. They specialize in items such as Kabbalah books in Aramaic and Hebrew, as well as Kabbalah water which is purported to have deep-seated healing powers. Kabbalah is a new way of understanding and living.
