Kabbalah Jewelry and The Red String Bracelets

Red String Kabbalah Bracelet A lot of attention is being given these days to the study of the Kabbalah, that mystical segment of Jewish studies that is supposed to give explanations as to the relationship between the spiritual and the physical; or between the realm of Heaven and the physical realm of Man on earth.

Along with the books and other material available to those who try to undertake Kabbalah studies with a group or on their own, a considerable amount of charms, amulets and other items are being marketed as Kabbalah Amulets and Charms. These items vary in design as well as cost, with some of them being quite expensive if made of gold and incorporating precious and semi-precious stones.

Designs for these charms are varied and can be extremely simple, such as the well known Kabbalah Red String which is in reality a braided red string with perhaps a small charm such as a Hamsa Hand or Heart included. Many types of jewelry said to be derived from Kabbalah names are said to give protection against evil, otherwise known as the Evil Eye. These charms may include a Hamsa Amulets (palm) known as a Chamsa in Hebrew (Five), with the watchful eye design in the center. The Five fingers amulet in some Jewish teachings are to symbolize the five books of the Torah, Judaism's most sacred book of laws. The eye in the middle is the 'All Seeing Eye' or Eye of the Almighty, said to be always on the lookout against the forces of evil.

Wearing Amulets and Charms derived from the symbols of the Kabbalah is becoming more and more popular, and many famous personalities and movie stars are wearing them with the hope of obtaining benefits from their powers. As to whether or not these items are really beneficial, that is up to the opinion of those who wear them. As some modern biblical and Kabbalah scholars are saying; "it they make you feel better, then why not wear them?"

    Citrine Quartz Jewelry

    1/15/13 2:38 AM

    Citrine Quartz Jewelry

Citrine gemstones come from the Quartz family and are also known as gold or Spanish Topaz. Like all members of the quartz family, Citrines have hardness of 7 on Moh's scale of mineral hardness, one category less than the Beryl group which composes precious gemstones such as Aquamarine, Emerald and Ruby. The knowledge of use of this lemon yellow colored mineral (hence the name Citrine) has been for at least 2.000 years; and like Topaz, Garnets, and other Quartz stones, is a common component of fashion and other types of jewelry, where it is faceted and mounted into broaches, pendants, rings, and earrings.

Because of its unique color, Citrine is often worn in fashion accessory jewelry during the Autumn season, and is the most common birthstone for the month of November. The mineral is historically found in commercial quantities in Spain, France, parts of Scotland, and also in Germany and Hungary. More recently, it has also been mined in Brazil and Uruguay.

Although some forms of Topaz stones are similar to Citrine, the unique fiery yellow refractive features of Citrine set it apart in its captivating beauty, and finely cut, unblemished stone can cost much more than other kinds of quartz derived gems. Citrine is a "delicate" stone when it comes to cleaving and polishing it, however, so great care must be made by the cutter to ensure the stone's qualities are not damaged during processing.

Citrine is a stone that holds the strong energy of Willpower. Filled with sun energy, it also helps lift the spirits by promoting a happy disposition. In addition, Citrine is a gemstone of abundance and creativity. Spiritually, Citrine encourages individuality, self-confidence and courage. It is believed to help overcome depression and free people from oppressive influences, allows them to be courageous and able to express themselves.

Citrine gemstones, whether rough or polished, can be found in mineral and unique gift shops, and jewelry composed of these stones are commonly found in jewelry shops, as well as accessory jewelry departments of higher quality stores.

    Murano Glass In Handmade Jewelry

Murano is an island in the Venitian lagoon, it lies about a mile north of Venice and is famous for its glass making and particularly lampworking. Murano was settled by the Romans, then from the sixth century by people from Altino and Oderzo. First the island prospered as a fishing port, and a center for trade, from the 11th century, it began to decline as islanders moved to Dorsoduro, in 1291 all the glassmakers in Venice were forced to move to Murano due to the risk of fires. In the following century, exports began, and the island became famous, first for glass beads and mirrors, "aventurine glass" was invented on the island, and for a while murano was the main producer of glass in Europe.

Murano Glass In Handmade Jewelry The island later became known for chandeliers, although decline set in during the 18th century. Glassmaking is still the island's main industry. Stained glass and glass blowing were extensively developed in Egypt and Assyria and was brought to the fore by the Romans, and had its greatest days in European Cathedral building in stained glass-rose-windows.

Murano Glass has not kept pace with production, but is still home to more glass masters than any other single place on earth. The Venetian glass is a type of glass made in Venice (murano) Italy, world renowned for being colorful, elaborate and skillfully made, many of the important characteristics of these objects had been developed by the 13th century.

When the Venetian glass industry moved to murano, Byzantine craftsmen played a role in the development of Venetian glass, an art for which the city is well-known for. By the 16th century Venetian artisans had gained even greater control over the color and transparency of their glass, and had mastered a variety of decorative techniques. Despite efforts to keep Venetian glassmaking techniques within Venice, they became known elsewhere, and Venetian-style glassware was produced in other Italian cities and other countries of Europe.

Over the years Murano Glass beads have been used in a wide variety of handmade jewelry, some of which can be seen at the Handmade Jewelry section at MostOriginal.com.

    The Turkish Evil Eye

    1/15/13 2:27 AM

The Turkish Evil Eye in Handmade Jewelry

Evil Eye in Handmade Hamsa Jewelry You can usually determine someone’s emotional state just by looking into that person’s eyes. You can see if he or she is happy, sad, angry or tired by looking at the expression in the eyes. In some cultures, the eyes are believed to hold mystic powers, which can deliver misfortune to whomever the gaze is directed to.

The Turkish Evil Eye is a stare that is believed to cause bad luck and maladies. When someone stares upon another with disdain, envy or jealousy, the person stared at can be inflicted with negative energy that can bring about poverty, illness and even death. Even if the person with the evil eye stare had no intention of ill-will towards the other person, the gaze can still cause harm. Specifically in Turkey, the Evil Eye is a blue talisman and is known as nazar and is found in or on houses and vehicles or worn as beads.

The belief of the evil eye is widespread but is especially concentrated in the Middle East where Islamic doctrine states that the evil eye is real and presents a legitimate danger.

In response to the hysteria and fear of being harmed by the evil eye, talismans have been created as a form of protection. In Jewish culture, the Hamsa Hand is used as a charm for necklaces and bracelets as a way to repel the effects brought on by the gaze. Trinkets depicting the evil eye itself are also widely used as charms for the same intended purpose as the hamsa hand.

Evil Eye Earrings In Islam, talismans are generally prohibited as it is believed to be a form of idol worship. Muslims are instead encouraged to say “Masha Allah,” which translates to “God has willed it.” This is believed to invoke the presence of God to protect one from the evil eye.

Out of fear of becoming a victim of the evil gaze, people will often refrain from talking about subjects concerning their wealth, family or other positive points in their life as it is believed to attract stares of envy.

Those who strongly believe in the evil eye may even keep their children indoors as it is believed that they are vulnerable to the stares due to their innocence and young age, especially from childless mothers. In those cases the use of Hamsa Baby Pins and Hamsa wall decor for the children's room is sometimes used.

The eyes are believed to hold unseen powers and can cause misfortune to others even if no harm was intended. Even in modern time, people continue to turn to various forms of talismans and invoking the word of God to receive divine protection. Whether the eyes really hold such powers, hundreds of years of tradition certainly make it real for believers.

    Hamsa And Evil Eye Amulets

Hamsa and Evil Eye Protection Amulets

Evil Eye Protection Hamsa Hand Belief in the negative powers of the Evil Eye and various amulets and protective charms against it has been around almost as long as the human race. Virtually every country, language, and religion has definitions pertaining to the evil eye's power to cause all types of misfortunes and even death. Dating back even before ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Mesopotamians, amulets to protect people against being 'cursed' by the evil eye have been excavated in the ruins of these societies, and are still very much desired by people today. These charms are particularly popular in African and Middle Eastern cultures, with evil protective amulets not only worn by people on their person, but also mounted near the inside entrance of their homes as well.

Red String Evil Eye Protection Hamsa Bracelet Some of the more popular amulets against the evil eye include the Hamsa, a five fingered hand, sometimes with an eye in its center. If mounted near a house entrance, the 'Hamsa' is intended to protect a house and all those who live within against sickness, financial misfortune, and sterility. Women are more believing in these charms than men, and are more likely to wear a Hamsa Hand necklace themselves, or give their kids a Hamsa bracelet to wear with the belief that it will protect them against evil. And while all languages and religions have special terms attributed to the powers of the evil eye, Jews and Moslems appear to harbor many beliefs against it; even more than those living in more enlightened countries.

Indigo Hamsa Necklace The 'Hamsa' charm, or Hand of Fatima, along a blue glass eye charm found often in Arab souvenir shops are even found on boats and even aircraft in Arab and Muslim countries -so powerful are the beliefs in the power of these amulets and symbols to protect against evil. Protection can also refer to bringing good luck as well and conveying protective energy to people who believe in their powers. While not everyone has such beliefs, certain societies consider protection against the evil eye as one of the most fundamental that one can desire.

In some religions, including Judaism, the symbol of a fish and fish head is considered as good protection against the Evil Eye. For this reason, many charms against the Evil Eye also contain the likeness of a fish.

Hamsa and other Evil Eye protection amulets can be found in many shops dealing with jewelry and charms, as well as the occult. They are also available on many websites on the internet.

Angels in Gifts and Jewelry Artwork

Kiss of Angels by Michal David The original word, both in Hebrew and Greek, means messenger, and is so translated, it is often applied to an ordinary messenger, (Job 1;14, Samuel 11;3, Luke 9;52) the prophets, (Isaiah 42;19, Haggai 1;13) and priests (Ecclesiastes 5;6).

Under the general sense of messenger, the term angel is properly applied also to Christ, as the great angel or messenger of the covenant,(Malachi 3;1) and to the ministers of his gospel, the overseers or angels of the churches (revelation 2;1,8,12).

Generally in the bible the word is applied to a race of intelligent beings, of a higher order than man, who surround the deity, and whom he employs as his messengers or angels in administering the affairs of the world, and in promoting the welfare of individuals, as well as of the whole human race.

The English word originated from Latin, Angelus, which is itself derived from the Greek Angelos, meaning "messenger". According to Jewish interpretation "Bnei Elim" (sons of Gods) were general terms for beings with great power, (some kind of super powerful human beings). Angels are referred to as "holy ones"(Zecharia 14;5) and "watchers"(Daniel 4;13) or the "hosts" (Sebaoth in Hebrew - Joshua 5;14) alternately, Adonai-Tzvaoot, lord of hosts, identified "hosts" with the stars. The stars were thought of as being closely connected with angels, the idea of a being partly identified with God, and yet in some sense distinct from him, illustrates a tendency of Jewish religious thought to distinguish persons within the unity of deity.

During the Persian and Greek periods, the doctrine of angels underwent a great development, partly under foreign influences, "angel-princes" appear as guardians or champions of the individual nations.

Angels are a common theme in art through the times. Some of these angels can be seen in amulets, pictures and other Victorian themed artwork available at MostOriginal.com.

Amethyst - The Color Purple in Jewelry

Amethysts are purple to violet colored minerals of the quartz family. Like other quartz stones, the amethyst has a Moh's hardness scale category of 7, and can be cut and polished into stones for jewelry. This beautiful mineral is commonly made into a variety of jewelry items, especially rings and broaches. Amethyst is believed to be most useful for all around healing and cleansing, removing negativity and getting rid of pain and tension.

Amethyst Bracelet The use of Amethyst stones in jewelry dates back to the ancient Egyptians, and is mentioned also in Greek and Roman writings. The ancient Greeks considered amethyst stones to be able to prevent drunkenness, and thus is derived the stone's name, which means "not drunken" in Greek.

The stone was also prized during Medieval times as a protection for soldiers in battle. Although once considered as a precious stone, it has lost much of its value due to a discovery of large amethyst deposits in countries such as Brazil and Russia.

Amethyst Necklace The Amethyst derives its unique color due to the presence of manganese and iron. In its natural form, it is often found in quartz crystal formations known as geodes or 'amethyst grottos'. Rock hounds and other mineral collectors prize Amethyst geodes and for this reason they are often found in "rock shops". Like other minerals of the quartz family Amethysts are largely composed of silica or silicon dioxide.

Besides Russia and Brazil, Amethyst minerals are found in South Korea, Uruguay, India, and in several locations in the USA and Canada. It is often used as the birthstone for the month of February.

Fashion and fine Amethyst Jewelry made can be found in fine jewelry stores, fashion accessory shops and boutiques.

The Fish in Jewelry and Home Decor

Fish AmuletFish Handbag Charm and Keychain The Hebrews recognized fish as one of the great divisions of the animal kingdom, and as such gave them a place in the account of the creation (genesis 1;21,28) the mosaic law, (Leviticus 11;9,10) pronounced unclean such fish as were devoid of fins and scales, these were and are regarded as unwholesome in Egypt.

Among the Philistines Dagon was represented by a figure half man and half fish, and was expressly prohibited worship of the fish. The sea of Galilee was and still is extremely well stocked with fish, Jerusalem derived its supply of fish chiefly from the Mediterranean, (Ezekiel 47;10).

The Orientals are exceedingly fond of fish as an article of diet. Fishermen are often spoken of in the bible, and a large proportion of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus were of that occupation, Christ made them " fishers of men"( Matthew 4;18-22 ).

The early Christians, in times of persecution, used to engrave the form of a fish on their medals, seals, and tombs, as a tacit confession of their faith; As the five letters of the Greek word for fish are the initial letters of five words, signifying "Jesus Christ, the son of God, the savior"; this symbol has thus become the subject of a superstitious regard.

Fish Charm on Kabbalah Bracelet The fish has been a symbol for the generative and reproductive spirit. The word "Ichthys" also means "Womb" and "Dolphin" in ancient Greek and these meanings tie into the depictions of the mermaids. In some cultures the fish has been associated with reincarnation and the life force. In India some believe that the Fish is believed to house the soul of the deceased that if eaten reincarnation will occur in a newborn child.

The fish symbol may have also been known as "the Great Mother", a pointed oval sign, referred to as the Vesica Piscis. The shape of the Fish was associated with birth, fertility, feminine sexuality and natural force of women according to the Celts as well as other pagan cultures across Europe. In recent years there has been a revival of the Fish symbol and it has been associated with academic institutions, young movements and a new generation of believers.

    Victorian Style

    1/14/13 4:42 AM

    Victorian Style Artwork and Gifts

The Victorian era of Great Britain is considered the height of the British Industrial revolution and the apex of the British empire. It is often defined as the years from 1837 to 1901, when Queen Victoria (referred to as the greatest and most beloved of British monarchs) reigned, though many historians believe that the passage of the reform act of 1832 marks the true inception of a new cultural era. The Victoria era was preceded by the Regency era and came before the Edwardian period.

Victorian Lady Jewelry Box Queen Victoria also had one of the longest, if not the longest, reign in British history. The period is characterized as a long period of peace and economic, colonial, and industrial consolidation, temporarily disrupted by the Crimean war, although Britain was at war every year during this period. Towards the end of the century, the policies of new imperialism led to increasing colonial conflicts and eventually the Boer wars. Domestically, the agenda was increasingly liberal with gradual political reform. The Victorian era gave birth to Victorian design and style that are still around today.

Victorian style was often very ornate, especially the architecture, where there was a lengthy competition between the Classic style and Gothic style schools of thought. Gothic Revival was influenced by the original Gothic architecture of Medieval times. The Gothic boom actually begun in 1818, when Parliament assigned a Million pounds for building 214 new Anglican churches. One Hundred Seventy Four of them were constructed in a Gothic or near-Gothic style, and for almost a hundred years, most churches in England were Gothic in design. Despite the popularity of extravagant decoration, Renaissance or classic styles were also favoured for public buildings.

Wild Roses Victorian Jewelry Box Several general style trends of the Victorian Era transcend any one facet of fashion, but rather had broad influence across clothing styles, architecture, literature, and the decorative arts, many of these had their roots in the 18th century, but flowered in the Victorian age, including; orientalism, the Gothic revival which generated the pre-Raphalites and artistic dress, Aestheticism, home d?cor, fashion through dress reform and rational dress.

Charles Fredrick Worth, the "father of Haute Couture" was a London draper who relocated to Paris in the 1840's, his success led to the dominance of Paris fashion houses as arbiters of style and the preferred clothiers for upper class women in both Britain and America.
